Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is an award winning debt-counselling charity. It was established in 1996 by John Kirkby who used his 17 years experience in the finance industry to help those in debt and poverty. Celebrating 10 years, the charity has grown to a national charity of 53 centres helping 5,000 people a year. The vision is to see 500 CAP centres throughout the UK by the year 2021. At that point, CAP will be helping 1,000 new clients a month and 27,500 people every year.

CAP helps people all around the UK by offering an in-depth solution, including home visits, support over the phone, and credit negotiations and correspondence that can last months or years. Initially each family is visited at home to work out a budget, prioritising spending for food, mortgage payments, utilities and priority debts. Any disposable income is then divided fairly between unsecured debts such as credit cards, loans etc. CAP provides reliable, ongoing support until you are debt free!

Recently received letter from a CAP client:

"I just want to write again and thank you for all the help CAP have given me. When our mother died we the family were faced with enormous debts for nursing home care and having no where to turn we borrowed. Being the eldest, the financial burden fell on me. CAP helped me straighten myself out and now I am at the end, almost, of that debt and I shall be for ever grateful to CAP. Words can never express what a lifeline you have been."

CAP works in partnership with local churches like ours all around the UK and Australia.  CAP offers top quality debt counselling and practical support in a way that allows people to experience and respond to the love of Jesus. For more information, please see www.capuk.org
